The Westin New York at Time Square was my chosen accommodation for my stay in New York City.

We were greeted by very friendly staff after a 22-hour flight from Australia, who made us feel right at home. The room was well stocked with a mini-bar, coffee machine and TV. We requested an extra fridge for the room to store my medicinal supplies.

It was like a home away from home. The accommodation was fantastic and in a great location. Being in Times Square, you have direct access to many of the main subway stations, restaurants, bars and shopping.

Traditionally, hotels in New York are generally quite small due to the limits on space, however the The Westin New York at Time Square was a very spacious hotel with two double beds, a roll in shower and a desk which I used as a table for mealtimes and to plan my daily activities. There was plenty of room for two adults, my power chair, hoist, shower chair and my mountains of luggage! The bathroom was spacious with plenty of room to move. All areas and facilities we explored within the hotel were wheelchair friendly.

The best feature of the room was the button activated doors. They allowed me a bit of extra independence when leaving my room. However, a warning - make sure you don’t accidentally press this button when trying to find the bathroom light when you are having a shower…

Another benefit was the health and fitness program they offered. At 6:30am one morning, we were able to go on a guided 5km run through Central Park, even managed to run through Times Square and see it deserted which was a rare sight (pre-Covid 19)!

Overall, the accomodation is a very comfortable hotel in an excellent location with plenty of wheelchair manoeuvrability.

I would highly recommend The Westin New York at Times Square as an accessible hotel if you are planning a holiday to New York.
